SolarBuddy is participating in Community Million Dollar Challenge

Help illuminate the lives of children around the world living in energy poverty by taking on this Community Million Dollar Challenge to Mt Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain at 5895m, in support of SolarBuddy. Nearly 1.5 billion people around the world do not have access to electricity and a study has shown that children spend 78% more time on their homework when having access to something as simple as light. By joining this challenge to climb Kilimanjaro via the Rongai Route, fondly known as Kili, you can help address this. The sight of the permanent snow capped peak of Kili provides a constant source of inspiration when viewed from the vast plains. It is also a possible challenge for any fit trekker and while the ascent does not require any technical climbing, the trails are demanding and a sound level of fitness and an ability to acclimatise are essential prerequisites before attempting the summit. The Rongai Route begins in attractive farmland and delightful forest, with the opportunity for viewing black and white colobus monkey, and passes through several different climate zones, adding considerably to the interest of the challenge while at the same time ensuring maximum acclimatisation. This route retains a sense of unspoiled wilderness and offers a different perspective on Kilimanjaro by approaching it from the north. If your training pays off and the weather is clear, once reaching the alluring summit of Uhuru Peak (5895m), your efforts will be more than rewarded with amazing 360 degree views of the surrounding plains.
